Vivekananda Mission Asram was founded on August 3, 1962 at Viveknagar(Rampur), a remote village under a scheduled caste constituency, in undivided Midnapur District of West Bengal, India. Though the Asram was established at a crematorium site, the selfless services of the monks and missionaries, dedicated local youths, and all other service minded noble hearts elevated it to a temple of learning, culture and support for the underprivileged. It set out to provide quality education, training, health facilities and rehabilitation for the downtrodden, reaching out across global frontiers irrespective of caste, creed and nationality. With its multi-dimensional activities, especially in eye-health care, it has helped to restore the sight of thousands of visually impaired and has also undertaken projects to conduct rehabilitation programmes.
